For ten years, Michael practiced in private firms and the public sector, then left the law to run an arts business working with young families.

His decision to make a career change was due to finding the strictly legalistic approach to problems and disputes often left many important human elements out of the picture. People in conflict experience a range of emotional, psychological, financial, social and spiritual cross currents. Michael found working to resolve a conflict as an attorney, required a pretense that these elements didn’t exist. When the law offered finality to a conflict, it didn't offer resolution to the participants.

Looking for a holistic process to help people in conflict, Michael explored mediation and was able to meld his legal career with the more encompassing approach of mediation.

Michael continues to work with the Center for Mediation in Law’s Support and Development Practice Group. He's a member of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York and the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation where he regularly attends continuing education seminars.

He's a former member of the Family Divorce & Mediation Council (FDMC) Board of Directors and is currently serving on the Continuing Education Committee.
